I thought that there were some guidelines for administering the cane but as the Headmaster developed his technique there would be some slight changes. My Headmaster would administer between four and six strokes to the buttocks. He would leave about three seconds between each stroke and count each stroke out loud. After the cane had been administered he gave you permission to stand up and he would place the cane back in the cabinet. Once he had resumed his seat he said
“You are dismissed young man”
