The school used slippers(on the bum)or straps(on the hands). The slippers came from lost property, or from the nearest boy’s PE kit bag, but the straps were ordered (from somewhere in Ireland, since you asked) by the friend’s mum who issued them to teachers upon request. She advised Anya to see her and sign for a strap the following Monday. Apparently there then followed a discussion on the use of the weaponry. Anya wanted to use a strap but not on her hands, on the basis that she might miss(well, they’d had a few by then). Could she bend boys over for it? How many should she give? Alcohol-fuelled advice was duly given. *
