As he got up he said “Put your hands on the desk” which I did. He moved round behind me and turned up the back of my blazer. Then there was a whirr and a dull thud, followed almost immediately be another whirr and thud. It certainly wasn’t as painful as the slipperings the PE teacher gave on the one layer of PE shorts. Actually I think I was a bit disappointed, I didn’t cry out or shed tears or even wince. It all seemed rather pointless. Talking with others about it later someone said “Just be thankful you didn’t see the Head, he really knows how to cane, he had me in tears.” He was in the 2nd 15 and a tough lad. I shuddered at the thought.
