After all the rumours and comments made by boys who had been caned it all seemed rather an anti-climax. One of the tougher boys, who played in the 2nd 15 said that a caning from the headmaster was much more painful and was usually six although he sometimes gave four. The head only caned a few times in the term but the deputy dis so several times a week. It was just a part of school life back in the 1960s.
