I was so sorry later when I had to tell her our engagement was off. I had confused professional respect and sexual attraction for love and had finally come to my senses. Besides, I had already hired her replacement and would be replacing her within two months. I was tired of having to reason with a headstrong middle-aged female and the prospect of working with an amenable graduate student was too good to pass up.
