“Oh , what now?” she asked herself. It could be any number of things. Was the IRS looking into her dad again? Did Grandpa have another heart attack? Was Stephen finally busted for the fireworks? Or maybe her mom had walked in on Carrie and Chris in the middle of an unscheduled play session. Whatever it was, she was sure it wasn’t going to be pleasant.
“OK,” she said, bursting in through the door. “What is it?”
“What is what?” Nancy replied, stirring a pot of spaghetti and sauce.
“Something’s wrong. Isn’t it?”
Nancy shrugged. “No. Nothing….”
“Well that’s a relief…”
