Theodore worried her.

She had not seen him cry since his parent’s death.

Perhaps he had wept during the night, but she should have seen the marks of the tears on the pillow.

She wanted to reach out to him and hold him, but his aloofness made her hesitate.

He wasn’t a little boy she could cuddle and comfort, but a teenage boy.

All she could do is be there when he needed her.

As the weeks passed, Theodore adjusted to living in the new household.

He got up, did his chores, and went to school without a word of complaint.

But it was apparent to everyone he wasn’t happy.

Mr Field settled the affairs of his friends’ estate and cleaned out Theodore’s old house.

They moved the furniture from Theodore’s old bedroom into his new bedroom in their house and sorted mementos to give Theodore when he became older.
