Megan hadn’t even thought about it, but her mother was right. It didn’t seem to make sense at first, but it was really no different that the vacillating she had been doing all summer long. From self-sufficient, independence-minded young woman to child in need of attention, comfort and care, it had taken her forever to find some kind of balance. And now that she had, she wanted to help others find it as well.
“I guess I just want what’s best for her,” she concluded. But was her way the best way? Only one way to find out.
“Well,” Nancy reminded her. “Try not to forget that you are her sister, not her parent.”
“As if there was any doubt,” Megan answered. She patted her padded diaper and it reminded her that no matter what happened during the day, she could look forward to being changed, tucked into bed and kissed good night. That kind of assurance was worth not being able to stay out until midnight for her.
