Chapter 30: Mass Mental Exodus

“Suspended! You are not to come back to school for the first week back after vacation!” The principal commanded. Jacob, Rebecca and I were in the main office now. The principal, a security guard, and police Chief Gavin O’doyle were all there.

“Las, what had I told you? I told you, don’t be like this! And what did you do? You stalked him!” Gavin chided. “This has gotten to obsession levels! I talked to your father about the home situation on the way over here; and all you seem to do is talk about Tristian!” He explained.

“That’s because I thought I loved him! But obviously, he’s just a faggot!” She said, insulting me. I almost wanted to get up and rip her in half at this point! Everything she said was either to insinuate blame to me or Jacob, or to insult us.

“Okay, that’s it. You’re going home now, and not coming back for a week and a half after holiday break!” The principal decided.

“Mister Halsey, please escort this girl to the ISS room; and don’t let her out for anything without supervision. I’ll be calling her father now to discuss this with him.” He stated. The security guard nodded, and took Rebecca out of the room. As she left, she still eyed me coldly. Gavin shut the door and sighed.

“I should have said something to Justin about this beforehand. I’m sorry boys.” Gavin said, apologizing.

“Gavin, don’t worry about it.” Jacob said.

“No lad, this was somewhat my fault. I should have checked up on her after I talked to her at the hospital.” He said, seemingly attacking himself.

“Just relax police Chief sir. Everything is being handled now, and no harm was done.” The principal said.

“No harm was done? Sir, with all due respect; the social status that I’ve somewhat come to achieve at this school is thrashed! Everyone in this school now knows of my sexuality, and my medical condition! This isn’t going to go over well!” I explained.

“Tristian, I’m sorry that she did that. But on that end, there isn’t anything I can do! If someone starts teasing you, feel free to come to me about it.” He assured me.

“That’s not going to stop them from doing it though, and… it’s just not gonna do much.” I sighed. I wanted to cry so bad right then and there. But I refused to.

“Listen, Tristian. Just relax. Did your mom give you that note this morning?” Gavin asked. I nodded.

“Note?” Jacob questioned. I reached through my backpack until I came across a note written by my mother. I showed handed it to Gavin who quickly read it. He then handed it to the principal. He glanced over the note twice before looking at me.

“Are you aware of what this says?”

“Yes sir. I asked my mom, and she said it was okay. If you want to call her up and ask her about it, be my guest.” I responded.

“I’ll be calling her very soon, don’t worry. But… I suppose it’s okay than. Gavin? You sure it’s alright?” The principal asked.

“This has been in the works for weeks, don’t worry.” He stated.

“Okay, I’m confused!” Declared Jacob.

“Just relax; we’ll be out of here soon.” I assured him.

“Alright, listen. I’ll call your mother, and you two can go with Gavin here.” He stated. “And wasn’t Rogers supposed to be coming with you too? He already gave me his note this morning.” The principal asked Gavin.

“Yes, he’s supposed to be coming with us too. Could you call him down?” Gavin asked.

“No problem. I’ll have him meet you three out front.” He said, standing up. Jacob and I stood up, grabbing our things. “I’m sorry this happened boys. I know it isn’t right, but it gets better after high school, trust me.” He quoted. I sighed.

“Let’s just go.”

The three of us began to walk to the front of the building.

“Tristian, does this have anything to do with my gift?” Jacob asked.

“Actually, it does. Come on.” I said, ushering him to follow us as we walked outside the school walls. The brisk December air was hitting our faces like a ton of bricks, and I could immediately feel the cold. “We’re going into the city today to go check out a very special event. Are you ready?” I asked Jacob.

“Ready as I’ll ever be.” He replied. Then, of course who else would show up but Kif.

“Gavin!” He shouted, running up to him and giving the Chief a high five. “Man, I’ve been waiting for this all day!” He smiled.

“Gavin… Is he? Oh no… you’re not serious?” I asked, confused.

“Kif is coming too. Come on, I’ll let him explain in the car.” Gavin stated. He led us to his cruiser, which I suppose really was his, and we soon rolled out.

“K, how in the heck did you manage to get invited to this little trip?” I asked.

“Oh! I know mother O’doyle!” He stated. “Yeah, her I and the Chief here go WAY back!” He explained. I almost immediately knew what he meant.

“He’s an orphan… that’s why he’s new to the school.” I thought. It all made sense now! I was finally able to get why he was so insufferable. I almost felt bad at this point.

But sadness wasn’t meant to be the feeling this day would have, NO! This day was supposed to be about fun; even if it hadn’t started out that way!

“Are you boys ready to have some fun?” Gavin asked as we were driving.

“Yeah!” We cheered. I could help but pump my fist.

“Alright, you boys just listen to me now! Stay by me, and don’t go running off unless I say it’s okay. Got it?” Gavin asked.

“Got it.” We replied in unison.

“Tristian, you packed your bag with the necessities, right?” Jacob asked. I nodded.

“Hey, is it true that you wear diapers Tristian?” Kif asked. Chances are that I was probably going to wet at least once on the trip, and me dashing away for a while with my backpack in tow wouldn’t be something that Kif probably wouldn’t view as ‘suspicious.’

“Yeah, and so does Jacob.” I sighed. “But don’t go blabbing to everyone about it!” I warned.

“Oh don’t worry Tristian! I won’t, promise! Besides; everybody’s already talking about it in school! That’s how I know.” He stated. “Don’t worry though; tomorrow’s Christmas Eve!” he reminded me. The school had decided that we wouldn’t be getting off of school till right before Christmas.

I sighed and put my hand over my face. “Great…”

Today felt like some kind of mass mental exodus. Everything in my head that I thought was going to happen, and how I thought was going to go? Just seemed to never happen. The only thing that happened that I could somewhat predict was the event with Rebecca; but I’d only had a slight tingling feeling to make me think that something bad was going to happen.

Today would change my life… in more ways than one.
