“Whoops! Sorry, force of habit,” she said, smiling a little. “Just checking to see if you needed to be changed.”
“Well you could have just asked me!” he exclaimed, his cheeks burning at the reminder that he had been reduced to the level of one of her little boys.
“Okay,” she replied. “Although I guess I already know the answer. ‘Do you need to be changed?’ I’ll point out that I do have about 2-3 minutes before the first patient comes to change your diaper if you do.”
“Oh! No,” he replied quickly. “No need.” He tried to sound offhanded, but it came out seeming tense.
