Work was moribund. Sales were down, Vern was always yelling, Raul did not get along with his new partner by the prescriptions counter, Natalie was being worked by a dog and even Josh seemed low in spirits and incapable of keeping things together. Megan did what she could, but it became painfully obvious that she wasn’t Wonder Woman…and neither spandex outfit nor golden bracelets could change that.
If there was one upside to the whole stinking arrangement, it was what Megan experienced when she got home. Nancy usually arrived home shortly before her shift ended and would be waiting with a snack ready. They, mother and daughter, would talk about whatever came to mind, be it petty or personal. Megan found it helped a great deal. After their snack and chat, Megan’s diaper would be checked.
