Megan’s heart momentarily jumped before it dawned on her that she was overreacting. “Come on. They did NOT disown me.”
“They might as well could have!” Carrie spat with a forcefulness that was not her own. “After what they said. Fucking hypocrites! I hate them so much.”
Megan was horrified. Not even Jess had been this bad. It seemed that what happened between Carrie and her parents was less an argument and more a war.
“Carrie,” she explained. “This is Mom and Dad you’re talking about. Your family. The people you’ve known and lived with all your life. Whatever they said, they don’t hate you and you probably don’t hate them. Believe me, there have been times when I’ve been upset, but it goes away. And so will this.”
