The door to the house opened and Kylie Simmons emerged. She was tall and thin, with an athletic body and nicely tanned skin. An active girl, there were an assortment of scratches and bruises about her arms and legs, the result of canoeing and hiking and who new what else. Part German and part Native-American, Kylie had been mistaken for everything from Armenian to Turkish to Hispanic. Megan didn’t think there was any real way to describe her and gave up trying long ago.
“Hey roomie,” said Megan.
“Hi,” Kylie waved back. “You finally made it.”
“Yup. But if I knew it was gonna be like this, I’d have brought hiking boots, a rope and my Lara Croft outfit.”
Kylie giggled. “Come on in.”
“Nice to see you again,” Kylie’s mother greeted.
“You too, Mrs Simmons.”
