Megan’s eyes widened. “You’re kidding, right?”
Kylie shook her head.
“Man, that sucks.”
“You’re telling me!”
As they talked more, the comfort level gradually dropped. Megan wanted to try to find a delicate way to introduce the topic of her diaper wearing, but it was immensely difficult without her being too obvious or freaking Kylie out. For her part, Kylie seemed to have anxiety of her own and was not dealing with it well.
“Living together next year is gonna be great,” Megan said, trying to display a minimum of enthusiasm.
“Yeah,” Kylie answered blankly.
“What’s wrong?” she asked at last, tiring of the charade.
“Meg, I’ve got something to tell you….”
“I’ve got something to tell you too,” she said, mustering her courage.
“Let me go first, OK?”
