Dinner was an impasse. Megan kept on trying to bring up Carrie’s imminent departure; Drew and Nancy kept trying to get information on Megan’s visit with Kylie. Neither one wanted to yield anything. Stephen took advantage of the situation and used it to go on a long rant on why he should have a new bike.
“For your birthday, maybe,” Drew concluded.
“I want a Mongoose,” Stephen said. “A big one. With 21 speeds and off road tires.”
“We’ll see,” said Nancy. “And don’t forget. If you get a new bike, you’ll also have to get a new helmet. Your old one has a crack in it.”
“Helmets are for sissies!” Stephen wind.
“Helmets save lives,” Drew countered. That was the end of that.
