OK,” she relented, at odds ends with the alternatives. “Fine. Let’s give it a try.”
Nancy smiled and Drew nodded. It was what they had wanted to hear.
“What do I have to do, exactly?” Megan asked.
“You will have a bedtime and a curfew,” Nancy explained. “If you decide to go somewhere, we would like to know where you go and who you are with.”
“I know that seems like a lot to ask,” Drew continued. “But when you consider the alternatives…well…”
Megan shrugged. She wasn’t much of a night owl and she was pretty sure this wasn’t going to get in her way (and if it did, she’d simply work her away around it).
“Fair enough.”
“If you need anything, Megan,” Nancy told her. “Anything at all, we are here for you.”
Megan shrugged. “You guys are always there for me.”
“We try to be,” Drew said. “But as a 19 year old, I know it must be embarrassing to turn to your parents for certain things.”
“Dad….”
“No, it’s OK. I’ve been there myself. All we are saying is that you don’t have to be embarrassed.”
“Thanks,” Megan answered, smiling warmly. “What about my diapers?”
“What about them?” Drew echoed with a hint of distaste.
“Well…I think it would be best if you continued to wear them until you sop having accidents. Dr. Hardy did not find anything physically wrong with you, so it is a safe bet that this is all a byproduct of stress.”
“Do I have to use them though?” Megan asked.
“We couldn’t impose that upon you if we wanted to,” Drew told her. “That…remains up to you.”
“Although, it does seem like a waste otherwise,” Nancy remarked under her breath.
“Can I change myself at least?”
“I don’t see why not.”
“But if you want either of us to do it,” Nancy reminded her. “Just ask.”
“Thanks, Mom.”
