Today was the Fourth of July holiday, so her uncle was not at work. She hadn’t noticed whether her aunt and uncle had taken the opportunity to sleep in, but if they had, they would need the shower soon, too. It had to be almost nine in the morning, and she’d never seen her surrogate parents sleep much past that on weekends; she didn’t imagine that a holiday would be much different. Erin quickly dried herself off and put on the clothes she’d brought to the bathroom with her. She finished grooming herself and headed back to her bedroom, last night’s pajamas in hand.
She opened the door and stepped into the bedroom, and saw her half-undressed cousin jump in shock.
