We drove home and I went in to check on Gino as soon as we got home. He wasn’t any worse than when we left, which assuaged my guilt about leaving him with a stranger. I said goodbye to my mother and decided to take a nap before we went out later that night. I awoke about ten pm and went into the bathroom to get myself cleaned up before I got Gino dressed. Just on a lark I stepped on the bathroom scale to see how much weight I had lost in the last week. I hadn’t been eating too well and I was sure that I had lost a few pounds from fasting. “Oh my God!”, I thought as I saw that I had lost over fifty pounds. I looked down at my hands and saw the tiny beginnings of hundreds of liver spots. “I’ve got it too!”
