We drove to the lab where I helped Gino out and to the front door the same way I had brought him to the car. “This had better work,” I thought, “Gino won’t live another week if momma’s machine can’t cure him.”

I sat Gino under the machine and went over to the control panel to set up momma’s machine. I turned intensity of the machine up to full and set the timer for two minutes of dosage. I set the delay switch for thirty seconds. As soon as I got the machine to start the treatment, I’d run over and sit with Gino. Whatever happened, I’d share Gino’s fate with him. I hit the power switch and ran over to sit down beside him. Gino smiled at me for the first time in weeks as I put my arm around his shoulders and hugged him to me.
