We started going from one store to another buying clothing. Momma never showed us what she was buying, she would park the stroller facing away from the clothes rack she was looking at and put the clothes over the handle of the stroller. The only thing we saw was the very first thing she purchased; several pairs of matched pink frilly baby sunbonnets and blousy pull-over tops. When we got to the car after we went into the first store, she put us in the car and put the pull-overs on us then tied a sunbonnet around each of our heads. The effect was transformational. What had appeared to be two baby boys dressed in diapers were now two baby girls! The lacy sunbonnets left no doubt in anyone’s minds what we were. Our short hair was completely covered and the combination of the sunbonnet and pull-over with their puffed sleeves and lace trim gave us a very sweet petite feminine look. What was momma thinking?
