“Oh god!” Billy thinks as he watches what the girls do, skipping and hopping in their dresses and pinnies, dreading the moment when it’s his turn. A couple of the girls giggled at how inept he was whilst the others encouraged him. “It’s not easy in heels,” Billy claimed, although he couldn’t be sure if he’d be much better at hopscotch if he’d worn boy’s shoes. After dinner, a girl called Molly and another called Eunice, along with Alice played clapping games. I think they had more fun than Billy as they tried to teach him the rhymes and the moves. “No wonder boys don’t play this…” he said as he struggled to get into the rhythm and routine of it. “…it’s really hard.”
