In effect his subconscious is trying to resurrect both his mother and his mother’s love at the same time. His infant id has decided that they left him because he wasn’t worth loving anymore. He had matured too much to love and so he’s been abandoned. The poor boy is only looking for his mother to love him. Under normal circumstances, I’d advise a patient’s family to have someone in his condition hospitalized, but in this case I don’t think it would be helpful. As a matter of fact, I think it would detrimental to his condition. If we take him out of an environment where he feels loved and put him in an impersonal institutional environment, the fugue state may become permanent.
