Cathy returned and upon seeing the expression on his face asked, “Bri-Bri honey, what are you doing?”
Brian gazed at her quizzically and said, “Caaaa?”
Cathy smiled gently and asked, “Is Bri-Bri trying to say Mommy’s name? Babies aren’t supposed to call their mommies by name. I’m your mommy now. Try and say “ma-ma” for Mommy.”
Brian pursed his lips with a look of intense concentration, then raised his arms and gushed, “ca……ca……CA-CA!,” grinning gleefully in success.
Cathy looked surprised, then mouthed a silent “Ohh…” of sudden understanding.
She laughed and said, “That’s mommy’s good baby!” then bent over to kiss his forehead. She took him out of his crib and settled him on her hip with one leg in front and the other behind her. “Mommy will change your dydee after you’ve eaten, sweetiepie. Right now, it’s time to feed Bri-Bri his first breakfast as Mommy’s baby,” she said as she carried him to the kitchen. Bri-Bri bubbled his joy as he saw the brightly colored high chair waiting to receive him into his new life.
