They got into Kaitlin’s car. They went to the four way stop. Not much to see. Kaitlin proceeded to drive towards the light house to show Samantha the beach.
It was forests on both sides of the road. Every once in a while they drove over a creek. Samantha still couldn’t believe how many trees there were here. They passed one clearing which she saw a rather large fenced building about a quarter mile from the road . It was right up next to the hills. There was no road that went there, in-between the road and the building was a field of weeds.
“What’s over there?” Samantha asked
“Oh, that’s Milwood, like from the story yesterday.” Said Kaitlin
“I would think that they would demolish it after what happened there.”
“That probably didn’t happen, all we know is that it was closed for malpractice. That story is kind of silly. Paid by Russians? Dr. Sherbakov waiting for the sheriff to hang himself? Or the sheriff letting the guard get locked up without a trial? I know the sheriff, he wouldn’t do that.”
“So it’s not really that scary?”
“Well we don’t know, no one has ever been inside. Me and my friends wanted to go explore. We hoped the fence in the back, the door into the courtyard is unlocked, but no one wanted to go in. I wanted to, but not alone.”
“Well that seems like it’s something to do.”
“You really want to go in? I heard it’s haunted by ghosts of insane people. Insane ghosts are the worst kind too.” Kaitlin said with a smile.
“Yea let’s take a look around. See if we can find any evidence for the story.” Said Samantha
“Yea, doctors always document their work, even the evil ones. You wanna turn around and go right now?” asked Kaitlin
“Nah, where’s your sense of adventure. You can only go to haunted places at night.”
“Alright, so you’re gonna sleep over at my house again?”
“Yeah.” Said Samantha
They went to the lighthouse. There wasn’t really a beach, it was just a bunch of rocks. Looking at the sea kind of reminded Samantha of San Francisco, but it was facing the wrong way, and there weren’t any bridges, or buildings behind her. They turned back around. Samantha thought it was kind of a pointless trip, Kaitlin could have just told her there was nothing there.
Samantha went to her house after lunch to help her parents unpack the boxes. That was a lot of work that she didn’t want to do, she hadn’t had much sleep the night before. After an afternoon of unpacking Samantha went back to Kaitlin’s house to spend the night.
