Amber hollered “Ah-hah!” as she proudly displayed the lost item high above her head. I focused to see what she had found, and noticed it was a small orange prescription bottle.
“What is that?” I asked Amber still showing off her retrieval skills with the item in her hand.
“Oh it’s Lea’s medicine.” She replied. Seeing my confused expression, she also added:
“It helps stabilize her emotions. Without them, Lea couldn’t really express how she felt as well as you see her do now.”
I had forgotten about Lea’s autism ever since then. It didn’t really occur to me that she actually needed a form of artificial drug to boost her emotional state. If I had never known about her illness I would’ve simply thought she was just like any other child out there.
