Lea began to squirm in my arms, but soon found another comfortable spot to ease on. I made my way up the stairs, shadowed only by the sound of the creaking floor and the quiet suckling of a pacifier. Lea’s eyes were still open as I slowly carried her to a special surprise. Almost immediately she lifted her head from my chest and stared in awe at the exciting and colorful room before her.

I gently placed the small child back on the carpeted floor, knowing full well of her innate curiosity toward an unknown area. Taking a hold of her hand, I led her toward the large pile of toys on one end of the room. With keen eyes, she began to draw from the mass of stuffed animals all those that resembled a bird or duck and placed them at the front of the group. The coordination lasted a number of minutes and after she had finished, she stared for a moment just before squealing happily at her work. Seeing her express so much joy over completing her task made me smile.

Little Lea carried a beaming grin as she stood back up and walked to me. I noticed her diaper was bulging out slightly more than usual, which could only mean one thing.
“Let’s get you changed, baby girl.” I softly told her.
