Thomas felt that she wouldn’t understand how it felt to be the only child in the neighborhood. His sense of desolation was compounded by the fact that he still retained his adult brain and outlook. He had become what the philosopher/mathematician W. von Leibniz had characterized as a Monad. Thomas wished with all of his heart that he could, at the very least, return to a Cartesian Duality where there was another person he could relate to and love.
