He realized that in a strange way, he had brought his fate upon himself. If he had loved and trusted his wife as his full partner in life the way he should have, she might not have demanded a divorce and forced him to go home to his mother. He had allowed his work and his relationship with his mother to take precedence over his marriage. The thought made him want to cry. If his mother hadn’t served him his favorite meal, he wouldn’t have eaten at all. Thomas found the aroma of the chicken to be irresistible, his lack of appetite notwithstanding. He ate until he was stuffed, despite his depression.
