He sat moodily until dinner when she came to take him to the table. His mother picked him up, sat him on the chair and tucked a napkin into the bib of his overall. He ate without tasting his food, his world had suddenly become small and joyless. He ate his dinner silently, then went to the family room. He lay on the sofa and moped, occasionally weeping over his lost adulthood. Thomas turned on the TV and watched his favorite program. He wanted to see it while he could still understand it. In a few hours, he would lose the last years of childhood and with it his memory and ability to reason.
