“You know how I am,” Carrie reiterated. “Mom or Dad yell at me, I argue for about a minute and I let it go. But not this time. I just took all the…resentment that I’d been saving up, I guess, and started letting it out. And Mom looked hurt by some of the stuff I said, but I didn’t care. She called Dad and he got out of work and then I let him have it too. And that’s when they disowned me.”
“Carrie…what did they say?”
Carrie shrugged. “I don’t even remember. Something about me not acting like I belong in this family…. who gives a shit anymore. They don’t want me, I get it, and I might as well move out.”
Megan looked at her and started laughing. It was unbridled teen angst at its most unguarded…. and most mindless. Carrie seemed defensive for a moment, and then began to chuckle in spite of herself.
