“So were they?” Stephen asked.
“Were they what?”
“doing the deed.”
“No,” Megan told him. “And don’t let mom catch you using that word.”
Stephen rolled his eyes. “I’m not STUPID, Meg.”
“Oh yeah? Then why are you hiding in here when you didn’t do anything wrong?”
He made an explosion sound and a gesture with his hands.
“Fireworks?” she asked.
He nodded.
“Be careful with those…. you can get burned pretty badly.”
“I will. Are you gonna tell?”
Megan shook her head. “Nope. You’ll owe me one…. and I think I know what it’s going to be.”
He shrugged. “OK, fine. I won’t call you Diaper Girl anymore…”
“…Or anything else.”
“Or anything else,” he repeated, sounding less than enthused.
“Good,” she said, smiling satisfactorily on her way out.
Drew and Nancy had calmed down a bit since when Megan first walked in, but they still seemed gravely upset.
“Hello, Megan,” Drew greeted blankly.
