“Here we go again,” Megan said under her breath.
“You are fifteen years old!” Drew retorted, getting louder and more irate by the moment. “And there is no way that either of us will…”
“Guys, please,” Megan interceded. “Don’t yell, OK?”
Drew scowled at her.
“Megan’s right,” Nancy declared. “I feel that we should be able to approach this civilly. Carrie? Do you think you can handle that?”
“Yes, Mom,” she said, humbling herself and regaining her composure.
“Now,” said Nancy, drawing in a deep breath and trying not to look too unnerved. “What is it that you want?”
“I want….” Carrie began, her voice tightening with the strain of uncertainty.
“It’s OK,” Megan encouraged.
“I want you to give me and Chris another chance.”
“To do what, exactly?” Drew asked gravely.
“To play.”
“You call THAT playing? I have another word for it. It’s…”
“Honey, please,” Nancy interceded. “Let’s at least hear her out first.”
