Megan helped her mom with the dishes and in the process made a last ditch effort to get Carrie to stay.
“You don’t really want her to go, do you?” Megan asked.
“No,” Nancy replied. “I don’t. I still love her. Your father does too. But we both feel that, given the current situation, a mutual break would be a good idea. We had considered a camp of some sort, but she vetoed it. She also did not want to stay with Grandma and Grandpa. Jessica was more a matter of necessity, really, than anything else….”
“What if I started hanging out with her more?” Megan offered. “Kept her out of your hair and kept an eye on her.”
“You want her,” Nancy said, drying her hands. “She’s yours.”
