Though their visit was nothing short of disastrous, Jessica’s advice echoed in Megan’s head. Perhaps she should talk to a priest. She had been doing a lot of soul-searching and had foolishly ignored what could prove to be a valuable source of input. It couldn’t hurt to talk to a priest and find out what he had to say.
Megan was somewhat less than devout. She and her family only went to church on holidays. She had been inside the campus chapel only once or twice. Her knowledge of scripture was only rudimentary at best and her belief in a god, force, or savior seemed contingent upon what fortune or failure awaited her on any given day.
“Hey mom,” she asked. “Do you have the number for Reverend Michaels?”
“Reverend Michaels left,” Nancy informed her. “They have a new guy now.”
“Oh.”
“Why do you ask?”
Megan shrugged. “I just wanted to talk to him…. about something.”
“Well, you can talk to this new guy just as easily, can’t you?”
Megan nodded, but she wasn’t so sure. She had known Reverend Michaels for years. She felt that alone would make sharing her thoughts all the more easier. However, the ‘new guy’ was a mystery to her. She didn’t even know his name. Not only would it be harder for her to talk, but suppose he got her doubting the way she’d been living? She had just gotten over that. Suppose he told her she should give up trying to regress? She didn’t know if she could deal. And yet….
A.)Megan decided it was worthwhile to talk to this mystery preacher nonetheless.
B.)Megan decided to drop the whole idea. What was she doing taking advice from Jess, of all people?
