“There is something else we need to talk about,” Nancy said gravely.
“Yeah? What?” Megan replied.
“You broke our deal, Megan. You weren’t supposed to go out.”
“Believe me, Mom, if I knew what was going to happen, I wouldn’t have.”
“That isn’t the point and you know it.”
“I wanted to go swimming,” Megan retorted. “Is that a crime?”
“It couldn’t have waited until another time?”
“Yeah, well, I sure paid for it, huh.”
“That isn’t fair,” Nancy snapped. “Don’t you dare put this on yourself.”
“I’m not, Mom. You are.”
Nancy shook her head and cleared her throat. “We are going to see to it that this does not happen again.”
Megan raised an eyebrow. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“We’ll discuss this later.”
As Nancy left her, she began to ponder her cryptic final statement. Did that mean they would be taking legal action against Deanna? Or did it mean she wouldn’t be allowed to go to the pool? Maybe it meant that she would be watched with a closer eye. Megan had no reason to fear her parents, but that statement caused her to worry. What the hell did they have in store for her?
Tired of lying in bed and sulking, Megan found her baggiest pair of shorts and put them on over her diaper. The fit was tight and her butt bulged out, but she doubted Carrie or Stephen would notice. She knew she owed Des and Sabrina an explanation, but she decided to put that call off until later. In the meantime, she wandered into the kitchen in search of a snack.
“We’ll be eating soon,” Nancy revealed.
“So?” Megan replied, reaching for a cookie regardless. She caught her mother’s disgusted look out of the corner of her eye.
