Megan had heard enough. What Deanna said to her had been absolutely horrible. All of her toughness left her and she began to feel weak in the knees. Shoving Deanna aside, she ran out of the bathroom as tears streamed from her eyes. As fate would have it, she ran right into Ron, who was emerging from the men’s room at the exact same time.
“Oh, man. Sorry.” He then noticed Megan was crying and began to look confused. “Come on…I didn’t hit you that hard.”
A moment later, Deanna emerged from bathroom. She cast Megan a wicked glance as she passed. Ron began to understand.
“The girl that got attacked at the pool…that was you, wasn’t it?”
Megan nodded.
“Jesus…”
“Don’t tell anyone!” she snapped.
“OK, I won’t,” he told her, still shocked by the display he was witnessing. She continued to weep, and, not knowing what else to do, he hugged her. She didn’t seem to mind.
“She threatened you again, didn’t she?” Ron asked.
“Yes,” Megan whispered. “S…she said that I w…was gonna wind up being dealt with in the parking lot.”
