The sun rose and I gave up trying to work it all out. It was going to be a beautiful day and little did I know what was in store for me! Before I climbed out of bed my mum came into the bedroom with a cup of tea and a rusk for me. She sat on the side of the bed with her tea and had a chat about the previous night’s activities.
It had been difficult with my dad present to discuss “girl” things. Mum said: “Mrs Johnson ‘phoned last night after you had gone to bed; she said that she and Joan had discussed the ‘Gillian’ project and thought that I should know that at GHS the gym tunic is the ‘working uniform’ and is only for going to school on normal school days. For special outings like visits to town and concerts etc they dress in the ‘outdoor skirt’.”
