She found herself wishing that she had been wearing one of her diapers. Even if her clothing didn’t fully hide it, a diaper was still much less noticeable and embarrassing than a huge wet spot on her pants. As it stood now, though, everyone around was going to see her misfortune as soon as she stepped into the lighted hallway.
Hailey was the first of her family to notice as they left the darkness, but Hailey’s parents saw what Erin had done soon enough. Hailey realized that she’d actually noticed the smell in the theater, but her brain hadn’t made the connection until she saw Erin’s soaked pants. The four of them hurried out to the car, Erin apologizing profusely.
To Erin’s surprise, though, she received not punishment, but pity. Uncle Martin put his hand on Erin’s shoulder and said, “Don’t worry about it. Shit happens.”
