Soon enough, Erin and Sue were ready to leave. Erin accepted a good-bye hug from Hailey.
“If you need anything, call my cell phone,” Sue informed her daughter.
“Yes, mom, but I’ll be fine,” replied Hailey.
Erin followed her aunt out to the car, leaving the house exclusively occupied by Hailey.
As much as she wanted to get started immediately, Hailey decided to be on the safe side and wait. Her mother was usually very organized, but there was still a small chance that she might return home to grab something she forgot, and Hailey intended to be in a clean diaper if that happened. If her mother was going to return home, though, it was only likely to occur within fifteen minutes or so of when she left. It was just before ten now; Hailey decided to be safe and wait until 10:20.
