As it turns out, “nearby” is relative to the rarity of the destination one is considering. A fast food restaurant that isn’t within a few minutes’ drive probably wouldn’t be considered nearby in a reasonably populated area. Something like a movie theater would probably have to be under a twenty-minute trip to be considered nearby. So when Hailey, her father, and her cousin went to the “nearby” amusement park, the trip actually took just over an hour. The end result was that by the time her father found a spot in the sea of cars, Hailey was beginning to feel the need to use the toilet. It wasn’t bad enough that she was in imminent danger of needing to use the diaper that her desire to be an adult wouldn’t allow her to use, but it was strong enough that she intended to stop in the next restroom she saw.
Erin was evidently in a similar situation, as she quietly announced, “I should find a toilet soon.”
“Me too,” echoed Hailey.
“Well, it seems like you girls are already dressed for the occasion,” joked Martin.
