Erin was relieved. How could she have been so hasty to condemn Hailey? Hailey was the best thing that had ever happened to her, and she had been trying to convince herself that people like that couldn’t possibly care about girls like her. She owed Hailey an apology. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to doubt you! You can keep wearing them if you want!”
Hailey pulled Erin closer to her, and Erin gladly accepted the hug. They sat in silence for a moment.
“Now, how about going for a walk?”
“Mom, Erin and I are going to walk to the library to return these books, okay?”
