The room wasn’t dark enough that Hailey couldn’t see Erin at the dresser, however. It wasn’t normal to look for clothes at five in the morning without some reason; something must be wrong. Hailey turned on the lamp on her nightstand and immediately saw why Erin needed to change. Erin blushed as Hailey climbed out of bed.
“I didn’t mean to do it!” squeaked Erin. That line never worked, but it was the only thing she could think to say. She started quivering.
At that moment, Hailey realized the magnitude of what Erin was going through. Here was a girl who’d lost her mother a few years ago and her father and stepmother just recently, waking up in an unfamiliar house to realize she’d wet the bed. It didn’t get much lower than that in Hailey’s mind. She did the only thing she could think to do. She walked over and hugged Erin.
