For the second time that morning, Erin received a hug for her crime. She didn’t cry this time, though; she’d done more than enough crying early this morning, and her grief was much more under her control.
Erin finally got the nerve to speak, although only at a whisper. “I’m sorry, I’ve been bad, I promise I won’t do it again…”
Sue interrupted her by taking Erin’s chin and gently facing Erin’s face directly at hers. “Erin, listen to me. You were not bad, and I know you didn’t do this on purpose. You will never get in trouble in this house for wetting yourself. And you don’t have to promise me that you won’t do it again, I don’t want you making promises that are beyond your control.”
