Once on it felt like a familiar yet ill-fitting pair of shoes, something that one didn’t so much endure but certainly couldn’t enjoy… that is until Mrs Postlethwaite stepped up his corset training and took it in another inch, then it was back to square one; sleepless nights, shortened breath and a constant crushing feeling.
Billy, Alice, and everybody else in the country hoped the war would be over by Christmas but Christmas came and went and the stalemate in Europe continued. Billy sent his mother the cross stitch design he’d made as a Christmas gift, along with a lengthy letter telling her all about his stay with Mrs Postlethwaite. However, the letter was written under the watchful eye of his guardian so details were scarce.
