Theodore got into bed, pulled the covers up around his shoulders, and stared at the ceiling for a few minutes, thinking,
“Is this what Mom and Dad would have wanted?
How do I know that Mr Feilds actually called my aunt?
What if there’s been some sort of mistake?
What if Mom and Dad aren’t really dead?
What will they say when they get home?
Dad will be mad at me when he finds out I’m not in school.
I’m not going to take the blame myself.
I’ll tell him that’s it’s not my fault, I just did what I was told. Dad will understand that it isn’t my fault.”
