The Story of Theodore Scene 26

Mrs Field put her arm around Theodore’s shoulders comfortingly and hugged him to her side while Mr Feild held Baby John John.

They left the church and drove to the graveyard as the morning sky darkened with rain clouds.

Theodore stood at the graveside with the Field family as the minister read the final rites over the coffins of his parents.

Theodore agonized over his inability to cry for his mother and father.

The pain seemed to be more than he could contain, but he just stood there, stone-faced, as the minister read the ritual of parting and it began to rain.

It seemed to Theodore that the heavens themselves were weeping for his loss.
