I don’t recall either Quinn or JodyJ contributing here before so may I please say a personal welcome to the latter and a regrettably very belated personal welcome to the former.
Both of you seem to have been somewhat unfortunate in being punished on the bare, you especially so Quinn as an audience was present which must have been an anathema to you given your situation and your general dislike of the showers routine. Gym teachers, PE teachers, PT teachers, call them what you will, were in my experience almost to a man vicious brutes with little indication of humanity, and in informing your stepfather of your punishment your gym teacher seems to have carried on the tradition.
You have my sympathy. PT, as we called it, was a plague on my early secondary school days. Fortunately there were ways and means of avoiding it. I did this as often as possible because I dreaded falling foul of one PT master’s customary slippering of the last boy out of the changing room and into the gym. And when the person wielding the slipper could climb a rope just using his arms it appeared to hurt. I wasn’t inclined to find out how much!
It is interesting JodyJ that what you term your most memorable SCP was as young as 8. My bĂȘte noire was a year younger and some years earlier in the UK. Not quite the same degree of exposure as you experienced, though the teacher appeared to be attempting to attain something along those lines in her prolonged battle with the leg of my short trousers! In front of other boys and girls waiting to be punished and a mixed class of older children too. No implement, but a very hard hand and a similar number of spanks.
You describe the implement used by your teacher as a ruler. Was this the 12 inch variety or the rather heavier 15 inch type?</div>

Corporal punishment survey
Hi, I don’t know if this forum can help, but I’m trying to put together some realistic data regarding the use of corporal punishment in schools.
Reading this and other internet sources of information it is clearly very hard to distinguish between genuine accounts of CP, peoples fantasies, and role play.
School punishment books are difficult to find, or access. When they are available they only show the information that the establishments wished to disclose. They also only reflect official punishments, generally administered by the Head, consequentially they are not very representative of the general use of CP within schools.
If I study references in the media, the reports are generally only written when the incident was questionably outside the law. In England where I live, and indeed went to school, corporal punishment was legally practiced up until 1986. Therefore there would be no reason for the media to cover anything except the unusual.
Many of us however have witnessed (often first hand) the use of corporal punishment at school. If you have (as indeed have I) I’d be very grateful if you’d reply to this post giving as much accurate information as you feel comfortable with. However to keep this thread out of the realm of fantasy, I’d ask that you only post facts, and leave the creative writing and long discussions to other forums.
The information I’d love you to provide is the following:
About You:
Gender:
Approximate age when punished:
Approximate year of punishment:
Crime committed or alleged:
About the punishment
Administered by Head, or Staff member:
Gender of staff member:
Location punished (Classroom, Office, Hallway etc):

State of dress (Over Trousers/Skirt, panties, bare etc):
Privacy (In private, In front of Class, With another teacher etc):
About the school
Name of School:

Country:
Effectiveness
Were you ever punished again for the same offence?:
Do you consider the punishment effective?:
Any other relevant info:
Many thanks for your participation. I will reply to this post myself with the details of the CP I received.
Note: I see no reason why schools should not be named as they were operating completely within the law.
That was my first post here. Thanks for the welcome. I’m not sure if the ruler was 12 or 15 inches, but it was likely a heavy one at least by recent standards. They tended to be thicker in those days than now certainly. They usually had a metal edge piece inserted as well. At home, in the kitchen “junk drawer” my mother did have a heavy 15 inch ruler that had lost its metal edge or had it removed. It was my mother’s most common spanking implement (other than her hand). My recollection is the one at school was about the same, but I’m certainly not sure after about 60 years.

I don’t know if this can be considered “corporal” punishment, but here’s my account of being punished in high school.
GENDER – female
APPROX AGE WHEN PUNISHED – 16
APPROX YEAR WHEN PUNISHED – 2001
CRIME COMMITTED – talking in class
ADMINISTERED BY – teacher
GENDER OF TEACHER – female
LOCATION – hallway
TYPE OF PUNISHMENT – standing in the hall for 2 hours, paying attention to what was going on in class and being asked questions
POSITION – standing at attention, back facing open window to the classroom
DRESS – school uniform
PRIVACY – during recess, people from nearby classes saw me, and during class, whole classes of students moving from one room to the other passed by
SCHOOL – high school
COUNTRY – Japan
EFFECTIVENESS
WERE YOU EVER PUNISHED FOR SAME OFFENSE – yes
DO YOU CONSIDER PUNISHMENT EFFECTIVE – yes
OTHER INFO
I was caught talking twice by the same teacher. The first time, I was warned that the next time I talk, I will have to stand in the hall. A few weeks later, I was caught talking again, and she told me to stand outside the classroom. I had to stand in front of an open window, and pay attention, as the teacher said that she would ask me questions. If I got the answer right, I would be able to go back into the classroom. I got two chances, but I couldn’t answer either time so I spent two consecutive periods standing in the hallway. It’s impossible to concentrate on class when so many people are walking by in the hall, staring at me, and when your classmates can see me standing outside.

<div style=”width:100%;background-image:url(“/realm/A_L_123/A_L_trg.gif”);”>Hello Miki,
Thank you for a most interesting contribution on February 15 2015, 12:45 PM in the thread above. As you note, some people may not consider your experience corporal punishment, but others like me will hold that CP encompasses a wider field than the application of a punitive implement, hand, cane or whatever, to a sensitive part of the anatomy. In this case you were required to stand at attention for a long period when you would otherwise have been relatively comfortably seated in class, As this would inevitably be an unpleasant physical experience I would maintain that it falls within the scope of bodily punishment, which ultimately is all that CP implies.
The experience obviously made quite an impression on you. The emotional significance of such a punishment might I think possibly be very different in Japan as opposed to say the UK or the USA. In the latter two countries the unfortunate student required to stand in the corridor for two lesson periods might well worry that the school’s Head Teacher or Principal or another senior member of staff might observe their fate in the course of passing along the corridor. That in turn could lead to questions and further punishment. Indeed sometimes in the days and places where it was legal to on the spot or delayed punishment with cane or paddle etc. However, mere observation by fellow students, ordinary teachers and others using the corridor was not likely to cause particular distress to anyone required to stand there as punishment.
I wonder if in Japan the very act of being put on such prominent public display would itself constitute a memorable punishment for a student and that this is why you recall it, rather than because of any physical distress? The embarrassment of being singled out as having failed to meet the required behaviour standard and consequently being made the focus of unwanted attention by your own class and those using the corridor? If so, it is an example of how the same punishment can be perceived differently and have a varying degree of severity depending on cultural norms.
I presume that when you were at school acute pain causing punishments such as striking with an implement of some sort would already have ceased. Supposing however that they had still been used, do you think that you would rather have received such a punishment from your teacher, in private or even in front of the class, in preference to having to stand on display in the corridor for the two consecutive periods?</div>

Hi Another Lurker
No, there is no caning or spanking in Japan, as far as I know. If there was, the parents will make a very big issue out of it. If I had told my parents that I had to stand in the hall, they would have taken the teacher to court! Besides, I would never tell them anything as shameful as that.
Having to stand at attention for 2 hours was very tiring. My legs were swollen, and my shoulders were stiff. But the discomfort was nothing compared to the shame of having people see me. I couldn’t get it off my mind, and since then, I felt everyone saw me as “the girl who had to stand in the hall.”

<div style=”width:100%;background-image:url(“/realm/A_L_123/A_L_trg.gif”);”>Hello Miki,
Thank you for a very helpful reply.
I assumed that there was no caning or similar types of corporal punishment when you were at school and I note that you say that parents would have complained very strongly if there had been.
I am surprised though that you say that your parents would have taken the teacher to court if you had told them that you had had to stand in the hall. Were students at your school so well behaved that punishments by teachers were almost unnecessary and so rare that parents would automatically object to them? Or were some types of punishment regarded as uncontroversial and used without seeming exceptional to students or parents? If so, what were these punishments please?</div>
