Hi, I don’t know if this forum can help, but I’m trying to put together some realistic data regarding the use of corporal punishment in schools.

Reading this and other internet sources of information it is clearly very hard to distinguish between genuine accounts of CP, peoples fantasies, and role play.

School punishment books are difficult to find, or access. When they are available they only show the information that the establishments wished to disclose. They also only reflect official punishments, generally administered by the Head, consequentially they are not very representative of the general use of CP within schools.

If I study references in the media, the reports are generally only written when the incident was questionably outside the law. In England where I live, and indeed went to school, corporal punishment was legally practiced up until 1986. Therefore there would be no reason for the media to cover anything except the unusual.

Hi,I am thrilled to come across this forum. I am a 60 year old male and I got the strap many times at school. I went to school in New Zealand and the teachers used just a single tail leather strap about 2 feet long and pretty wide – about 3 to 4 inches. Most teachers had their own strap but if you were naughty with a teacher who didn’t have his own strap, he would tell you to go and fetch another teachers strap. When you brought it back, he would usually give you 2 softish ones on the palm, as he obviously was not too experienced at giving the cuts. However, when you took it back to the teacher who owned it, he would ask you how many you got and when you said 2, he would make you hold out your hands again for another 2 or 4, and I can tell you he lammed those biffs in a lot harder than the first 2. I used to get the strap for being naughty in class, for not doing homework, and a variety of other things, usually 2 but sometimes 4. I got six of the very best from the headmaster once for getting caught smoking after school and I can tell you that was the worst strapping I ever got. The headmaster had to strap 4 of us, and by the time he had finished, I thought he was going to burst a blood vessel! My palms were really red and sore, but the soreness soon became a nice tingly feeling which was great. I was also strapped by a woman teacher a few times and could she hurt1! Her strap was a lot stiffer than the other straps at school and she could really lay it in. I would love to hear back from others interested in CP and any experiences they had getting the strap

There is every reason to believe that some contributors to this thread have claimed to have been in receipt of school corporal punishments they never had. However you are I think the first person to respond to the survey with a description of a school punishment you explicitly state that you never received.

A novel approach, but one which is in fact in complete accord with the foundation post of the thread, despite the fact that Robin then tailored his survey questions so that they appear to refer to personal experience in receipt of the punishment described.

A very small point: It would perhaps have been helpful to indicate the period (approximately if you prefer) when you were in attendance at Worthing High School For Boys. Eight stroke school canings were, I think. quite unusual in English schools within the likely lifetime of contributors here. It would be of interest to know when they were occurring and how frequent they were.

You are certainly not alone here in not having been caned at school. Several contributors share that distinction, though perhaps not all of us would go so far as to say that we eternally regret it.</div>

Any other relevant info- Both Carol and myself had not done our maths homework so we foolishly decided to miss the lesson,there was plenty of places around the school were pupils could hide away,then return when the next lesson was begining.Unfortunately we were discovered by the school janitor we had to admit to what we were up to,and then he marched us back to Miss Jeffers lesson.
Of course she was furious and intended taking us both to Mr Briscoe at the end of the lesson,i knew i was for it, it was either slipper or cane ,3 or 6 for me and probably a detention as well,Carol would probably get lines and detention,which meant punishment at home as well,parents had to be informed if their child was in detention and both my father and Carols mum were firm believers in C.P

No Carol was not caned as girls were exempt from C.P,the female teachers were pushing the head to introduce it for girls as a school a few miles away had always used the slipper on girls,i think thats why when a girl and boy were guilty of the same crime the majority of female teachers wanted the girl to witness what could be happening to them in the not to distant future
Boys were punished in front of girls probably everyday at the front of class be it a one whack or a full six of the best slippering as i have myself suffered on numerous occasions.This was the second caning i received but the first one to be witnessed by females,and yes it was embarrassing,the cane is more painful than the slipper and i could,nt help but howl after each stroke and the tears were welling in my eyes.It seemed to get through to Carol,she had never seen a caning before and was surprised of the severity of the strokes and the noise the cane made
