it seems to me the only was acute and severe pain inflicted as punishment can not be considered torture is to twist the definition of torture to exclude the punishment in such a way that tortures definition become arbitrarily convoluted and ultimately meaningless… like when the usa attempted to argue that enhanced interrogation was not torture

Any other relevant info: Mr Warner was looking after his own class and my class. We were told not to talk and get on with our pre-set work. He came back and caught me talking. He took me back to his class, told me to bend over, I did so as he took the slipper from his drawer. He gave me four whacks and told me to sit down in the corner and to be silent. I was!

Hi, Yes, many times back in the 1960’s and 1970’s. We always got the strap on the hands at primary school, usually 2 on each palm, and then it was the choice of the cane on the backside or the strap on the hands at college. If you chose the cane it was 4 whacks, and if you chose the strap on the hands it was 6 cuts and they hurt as the senior masters at my college could really lam it in. Personally, I did not like the cane, but the strap was a different story. Although it stung and your palms went pretty red, it was a something I could take without shedding any tears, and I always felt quite smug afterwards when other boys would come up to you at playtime and want to see your hands and to know if they were sore. I would love to get 6 of the best now with that leather strap on the hands! The most I ever got in one day at school was 12, {2 the first time in the morning, 4 in the early afternoon for misbehaving at lunchtime and 6 from the headmaster after school because two of us were caught with a cigarette just as we were going out of the school gates}. I am of the old school and I think that the strap should be re-introduced. Graham

I was punished at school across my naked buttocks, and then had to stand in the corner with by pants around my ankles facing out while 2 others got punished, this for being noisy in class.
I also got punished at home by by 2 older sisters who would make me strip and then spank me in front of teir friends, this only stopped when I was 15

oneeyedick wow how old where you was there girls  in the class so every one would of saw your privates then that must of been embarrassing for you how where you punished  was it a male or female teacher what position what where you punished with did you have too pull your own pants down for the punishment how many strokes / smacks did you get

I never experienced corporal punishment in school, and in fact, only saw it executed once, in high school.
This would have been in the period of 1966-1967 in Rockford, Illinois.
I can’t remember the kid’s name or the infraction he committed, but he got about three good whacks with a long wooden paddle on his bare butt, administered by the male teacher.
Conveniently, his butt, and the rest of him was already bare.  This was in a swim class, and all of us were all bare.  (Yes, they really did that to boys in those days.)
He didn’t seem to react to it with much pain, though his butt was red; but at that age, teenaged boys wouldn’t react if you set fire to their hair.
I thought it must have been especially humiliating for him to be nude in the first place, then punished nude in front of thirty other nude  boys who witnessed him bend over and grab his ankles in preparation for the smacks.
