Well, my r/l experience was over 30 years ago.   But, I think you are right.  And, at our schools, it was like that even then.   Very judicial and businesslike.    I suppose it possible that there has to be more dialogue if done nowadays with all the litagation and culture very different.   Those recent videos do seem to pay homage to that.  But, for us, the talking/explaining happened at beginning of the school year and lines were defined.   You crossed those lines later, a quick spanking with very little discussion and on with the rest of the day.  For both parties.   So, for me, those are far more realistic.   I got it once so I do have first hand knowledge..   But, I was in class when it happened to others dozens of times.   That said, the only one I ever saw was the guy getting paddled immediately after I got mine.   The privacy rules had come into play by then but apparently did not apply if you were in trouble together.   Odd in retrospect

The world needs solvers of matters inherited by accident by children who must cope with daily life, meaning getting yelled at home for various reasons , and parents who know or have the right to figure out matters in their own home regarding discipline. U cannot expect the school to do everything right.

I attended school in the Florida panhandle from 1945 through 1957.  My best guesstimate by grade would be as follows.

1st – 5
2nd – 2
3rd – 5
4th – 4
5th – 4
6th – 10
7th – 7
8th – 4
9th – 3
10th – 3
11th – 0
12th – 0

What might be of more interest would be an estimate of your deservedness in the different grades given due allowance for your degree of culpability.

A first grader can hardly be expected to know the rules so should be given a bit of slack. In the early to mid teens there may be a bit of pushing boundaries and testing limits.

True the kids in lower grades are not as knowledgeable on the rules, but they do no that things like fighting, arguing with the teacher, and use of bad language is going to get you in trouble.  I deserved some I got and some I didn’t like the mass paddling’s where everyone got it.  Some I received from my uncle, who was also the principal, was no doubt because he liked administering them.

I was in the fourth year at junior school age 10+ I was sent by my teacher to give a message to the head who was in the school hall, There was a line up of boys of my age who had been sent to be slippered, I tried to give him the message but was told to go to the end of the line, The boys in front of me one by one went up to him and was told touch your toes and got four stinging strokes of the slipper and sent back to his class.   Then I went to give the message!  But he said bend over and touch your toes I obeyed and he gave me four sting strokes of his slipper that hurt /stung my bottom, He said punishment over up you get , Back to class,  I told my teacher what had happened, he said a mistake has happened.  Later in the day the head came into class, called me out, He told the class I had been punished by mistake with four of the slipper, He was sorry for the mistake to to me in front of the class but there was nothing he could do to correct the mistake.  Then he left the class

i was slippered from the first form to the fourth form with other boys as well.
